At Bradfords we are working to reduce our energy costs and make continuous improvements to our waste and recycling streams in a socially responsible way. The aim is to set more specific performance based targets, including quantitative environmental targets.
SUMMARY OF TARGETS
These targets cover both environment and social issues and are linked to the SR Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) where relevant. They are intended to reinforce and build on commitments already made within Bradfords.
Energy targets will be sent to each site every year.One way Bradfords will improve energy efficiency is by using energy efficient lighting and equipment, natural lighting and energy monitoring systems.Target – Achieve a 10% reduction in branches, energy consumption per m² floor space by 2018 against the 2015 baseline. Reduce CO2 levels by 10% reduction for branches.
Bradfords Group have an on going programme to engage with vendors over the use of chemicals of concern. All B&S sites that need to be are registered with the Environmental agency for Hazardous waste transfers. All hazardous waste at sites are disposed of in the correct way.

We recycle all of the batteries used in not only our branches but also head office.
WRAP & CARBON TRUST
Site collection boxes are provided at all sites for customer recycling. Every business is being reviewed by WRAP to find ways to reduce waste. Carbon Trust Surveys are being carried out to identify energy savings.
PACKAGING & WEEE
Target – B&S are committed to improving ways to reduce packaging and making returns to the Environmental agency. B&S also belongs to the Bifpack DTS scheme for WEEE.
Returns are issued in March via our compliance scheme Bifapack who issue it to the Environmental agency. Effort is made to reduce our PRN notes.
We have commissioned WRAP to undertake waste minimization and packaging reviews and we will be working with them to make reductions.
All WEEE produced by B&S is recycled and all fluorescent tubes are recycled via recolight which provide a free take back scheme.
We are proud that every penny of the money raised through the sale of our plastic bags goes to Macmillan.
B&S will take action to reduce branch waste and increase recycling. 6 monthly waste reviews are carried out at each site to identify ways to improve the reduction of waste.
We have removed all Skips from Bradford Building supplies sites.
Attend regular meetings with Environmental agency and South west minimization group. Reports will be sent to Area managers every month on their waste and recycling.
Our wood waste is turned into biomass fuels.
The shavings from our Timber Manufacturing is sold to agricultural companies and any left over wood is turned into Kindling.
